How to Apply for Birth Grant

If you or your partner have been working and paying social insurance contributions in Cyprus, you may be eligible for the Birth Grant (Βοήθημα Τοκετού). It is a one-time payment made by the Social Insurance Services. The grant is paid for the birth of a live child when the mother or her husband are insured.

How much is it?

The amount depends on the number of children and is updated every January.

  • The law sets a base amount of €1,000 for a first child, €1,500 for a second, and €2,000 for a third.
  • The grant increased for births from 5 January 2026. For a first child it is about €1,095.
  • In the case of twins or multiple births, the grant is paid for each child.

Who can apply?

  • The mother, or her partner, must have been insured through Social Insurance. Minimum contribution conditions apply, so ask the Social Insurance Office if you are unsure.
  • Recognised refugees, subsidiary protection holders and asylum seekers can apply if the contribution conditions are met.

When to apply

The application must be submitted within 12 months of the birth, and there is no possibility of extending the deadline. Do not wait until the last month. service

How to apply

Option 1: online, with CY Login (for people who have a Resident Permit or a Cyprus ID)

  1. Create a CY Login account: cge.cyprus.gov.cy/cyloginregistration/register. You must verify your identity through e-banking, a District Social Insurance Office, or any Citizen Service Centre.
  2. Submit the application on the dedicated portal: child-birth-grant.service.gov.cy, or via gov.cy.

Option 2: paper form (for people without a Resident Permit or Cyprus ID, which is the case for asylum seekers)

  1. Get the paper form M.D. 3-006 from a District Social Insurance Office, a Citizen Service Centre (KEP) or a Citizen’s Centre at a Post Office (KEPO). service
  2. Fill it in and submit it at one of these offices. You can also find general information and forms at mlsi.gov.cy/sid.

Documents you will need

  • The child’s birth certificate (the original, if the child was not born in Cyprus)
  • Your IBAN (bank account details)
  • Your ARC and confirmation letter, or your residency card, or your asylum seeker documents

Special Birth Grant for Mothers Who Do Not Qualify for the Social Insurance Grant

If you are not entitled to the grant above, for example because the contribution conditions are not met, you may apply for the Special Birth Grant.

  • Who can apply: women who have given birth and have lived in Cyprus for the last 12 consecutive months, if they are not entitled to the childbirth grant from the Social Insurance Services.
  • Amount: equal to the grant paid by the Social Insurance Services.
  • Deadline: within one year of the birth.
  • Where to apply: not at the Social Insurance Office. The application goes to the Welfare Benefits Administration Service. Information and forms: wbas.dmsw.gov.cy. The form for unmarried mothers is available as a PDF (2023 version).
  • Documents: the child’s birth certificate, your IBAN, and proof that you are not entitled to the Social Insurance grant (the rejection letter from Social Insurance), plus an affidavit confirming your unmarried status if the form requires it.

Birth-related deadlines at a glance

Three separate deadlines apply, and families often confuse them:
