Safe and Dignified Employment: Know Your Rights in Cyprus
Free Online Workshop | Monday, 6 July 2026 | 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.
Everyone deserves to work in an environment where their rights are respected, their dignity is protected, and they are treated fairly. Yet many workers—especially migrants, refugees, asylum seekers, and people entering the labour market for the first time—are unaware of the legal protections available to them in Cyprus.
To help bridge this gap, the HOST – Tackling Human Trafficking in the Hospitality Sector project, together with Step Up Stop Slavery, is organising a free online workshop entitled “Safe & Dignified Employment: Know Your Rights” on Monday, 6 July 2026, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
The training forms part of the European Union-funded HOST programme, which is being implemented across five European countries to strengthen awareness, prevent labour exploitation, and combat human trafficking within the hospitality sector.
Why this workshop matters
Finding a job is often the first step towards building a new life. However, without access to reliable information, workers may unknowingly accept unfair working conditions or become vulnerable to exploitation.
This workshop aims to empower participants by providing practical information about:
- Employment rights in Cyprus
- Fair working conditions
- Employment contracts
- Wages and working hours
- Protection from labour exploitation and trafficking
- Where to seek help and legal support if problems arise
Participants will also have the opportunity to hear from community leaders and expert lawyers, who will explain key legal rights in clear and accessible language while answering participants’ questions.
Supporting vulnerable communities
At Caritas Cyprus, we meet many people who are eager to work and contribute to society but face uncertainty about their rights and responsibilities as employees. Knowledge is one of the strongest tools for preventing abuse.
Whether someone is starting their first job, changing employers, or simply wants to better understand the labour system in Cyprus, learning about employment rights can make a significant difference.
Cypriot legislation provides important protections for workers, including safeguards related to employment conditions, equal treatment, minimum wage provisions, and protection against exploitation. Understanding these rights helps workers recognise when something is not right and know where to seek assistance.
Join the conversation
The workshop is free and will be held online, making it accessible to participants from across Cyprus.
If you, or someone you know, would benefit from learning more about safe and dignified employment, we encourage you to take part and share this opportunity within your community.
Together, we can help build workplaces where every person is treated with dignity, fairness, and respect.
