Get To Know…Omar

Omar studied Sociology in Saudi Arabia, where he completed both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. During his time in Saudi Arabia and his homeland Somalia, he was actively involved in volunteering and supporting others. 

Since June 2026, Omar has been officially volunteering with Caritas, through our apprentice program, although he had already been helping the organisation before becoming an official volunteer. He is usually at the migrant center in the mornings, from Monday to Friday. 

Omar supports people with a variety of practical needs, including labour cards, bank accounts, GESY, and other official documents. He also provides translation and communication support in Arabic, English, and Somali. He is particularly interested in working with families and helping them navigate everyday challenges. 

An interesting fact about Omar is that, while studying at the university, he worked as a library technician, helping readers navigate through the university’s library systems.
