Update: Final Approved Building Permit No Longer Required for Housing Allowance
Important update (17 September 2026)
The requirement for a Final Approved Building Permit (“Άδεια Τελική Έγκριση”) for properties accommodating asylum seekers has been removed.
This means that landlords no longer need to provide a Final Approved Building Permit in order for housing allowance payments to be granted.
This update replaces the information published in our previous article, which stated that the permit was required as of 1 June 2026. That information is no longer applicable.
Please make sure to refer to the current requirements when applying for or receiving housing allowance.
Please note: Other requirements and documentation for housing allowance may still apply.
Previous version :
“As of 1 June 2026, housing allowances will no longer be granted for properties accommodating asylum seekers if they do not have a Final Approved Building Permit (“Άδεια Τελική Έγκριση”).
This permit confirms that the building has been completed in accordance with the approved construction plans and all relevant regulations.
Landlords renting accommodation to asylum seekers are therefore strongly advised to submit a copy of the Final Approved Building Permit to their local Social Welfare Office as soon as possible. If the permit has not yet been issued, landlords should provide evidence that an application is currently pending.
Failure to provide the required documentation may result in the termination of housing allowance payments.
