Getting Ready for Birth
As your due date gets closer, it is important to prepare both your hospital bag and your home for the arrival of your baby.
What to Pack for the Hospital
Make sure you prepare a bag in advance and keep it ready. It should include:
- Medical documents
- Clothes for the baby
- Clothes for the mother
- Blanket and towel
- Pampers and wet wipes
- Nightgown and slippers
- Personal hygiene items
- Phone charger
- Water
- Baby carrier
What to Prepare at Home
Before the baby arrives, it helps to have these items ready:
- Thermometer
- Baby cot with blankets
- Baby bathtub
- Towels
- Pampers and wet wipes
- Bottles
- Pram (stroller)
When to Go to the Hospital
Go to the hospital immediately if:
- You are in a lot of pain
- Your water breaks
- You have strong and regular contractions
If you are not sure whether it is time to go, you can call the gynecology department at your hospital.
- For Makarios Hospital, the number is 22 405012.
When you arrive at the hospital, you will first go to the maternity ward. When it is time, you will be transferred to the delivery room.
Support from Caritas
Preparing for birth can feel stressful, especially if you are far from home. Caritas Cyprus is here to support you. Every two weeks, we hold a session called “Having a Baby in Cyprus” where you can learn what to expect during birth, how the hospital system works, and how to prepare step by step.
Check our schedule to see if a session is happening this week — and join us to get guidance and support before your baby arrives.
