Empowerment Through Skills: Free Sewing Workshop Supporting Women in Cyprus

Creating opportunities for learning, confidence and connection is essential to building stronger and more inclusive communities. A new initiative taking place in Cyprus is doing exactly that by offering women a safe space to develop practical skills while fostering empowerment and new beginnings.

Vymata has announced an open call for a free sewing workshop designed for women who wish to learn practical skills in a supportive and creative environment. More than a technical training, the workshop aims to provide participants with a space where confidence, creativity and community can grow together.

A Safe and Supportive Space

The workshop is open to vulnerable women of all nationalities, including local residents, with priority given to survivors of trafficking, survivors of domestic abuse and single mothers. Women experiencing social or economic vulnerability are also encouraged to apply.

By creating a women-only environment, the programme seeks to ensure participants feel safe, supported and able to focus on personal growth at their own pace.

Learning Practical Skills — No Experience Needed

Participants will benefit from free hands-on sewing training, and importantly, no prior experience is required. The workshop is designed to be accessible to beginners while encouraging creativity and self-expression.

Beyond learning technical sewing skills, participants will also have the opportunity to:

  • Build confidence through practical achievement
  • Explore creativity in a collaborative setting
  • Develop skills that may support future independence or employment opportunities
  • Connect with a supportive team and other women sharing similar experiences
More Than Sewing

The initiative goes far beyond learning how to sew. It is about connection, empowerment and creating space for new beginnings. Workshops like this can play a meaningful role in restoring confidence and strengthening social inclusion, especially for women navigating difficult circumstances.
