Other Testing Options

Testing can also be carried out through the General Health System (GHS) or privately, following a referral from a doctor or specialist. These options are not anonymous, require identification, and results are recorded in the GHS system.

Understanding the Window Period

If a test result is negative, it is important to consider the window period—the time between possible exposure and when an infection can be detected. For some infections, recent exposure may not be identifiable immediately. If there has been a possible recent risk, retesting after the recommended window period is advised to ensure accurate results.
