How to Apply for a Birth Certificate in Cyprus if You’re Not Married or a Single Mother

Registering your newborn child is an important legal step. In Cyprus, the process varies depending on whether the parents are married or not, or if the mother is a single parent.  In both cases you will be required to complete and swear affidavits at the court. Hereโ€™s a simplified guide to help you understand what to do. 

๐Ÿผ If the Childโ€™s Parents Are Not Married:
  1. Buy Court Stamps
    • Visit any post office and buy court stamps (โ‚ฌ4) for each affidavit (signed statement).
  2. Sign Affidavits
    • Both parents must sign affidavits confirming the father’s identity.
    • You must sign an affidavit confirming if you have any other children and if you are married. 
    • You will need additional affidavits if:
      • The baby is older than 3 months.
      • One or both parent(s) do(es) not have a copy of their passport or ID.
  3. Go to the Family Court
    • Bring the affidavits and stamps to the Family Court in your district.
    • Example (Nicosia):
      • ๐Ÿ“ Iroon 2, Engomi
      • ๐Ÿ•— 8:00 AM โ€“ 12:30 PM
  4. Submit Documents to the District Office
    • Bring:
      • Birth registration from hospital
      • Signed affidavits
      • Original + photocopies of your documents (Confirmation Letter, Alien Book, Passportor its official copy)
      • 5 euros for the birth certificate
    • In Nicosia, go to:
      • ๐Ÿ“ Alkeou 2, Strovolos, 1458
      • ๐Ÿ•— 8:00 AM โ€“ 2:30 PM
    • Get managerโ€™s approval in Room 5.
    • Go to Window 7 for the certificate (same-day service if documents are complete).
๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿผ If You Are a Single Mother:

You must sign an affidavit confirming if you have any other children and if you are married.

  1. Check if You Need Affidavits
  2. Go to the District Court
    • Bring affidavit(s) with โ‚ฌ4 court stamp per each affidavit.
    • Example (Nicosia):
      • ๐Ÿ“ Charalambos Mouskos Street
      • ๐Ÿ•— 8:00 AM โ€“ 12:30 PM
  3. Then Follow the Same Steps as Above
    • Submit your documents to the District Office (see above).

๐Ÿ’ก Tip: The process may take some time, but in most cases, the birth certificate is issued on the same day.
