How to Apply for a Birth Certificate in Cyprus if You’re Not Married or a Single Mother
Registering your newborn child is an important legal step. In Cyprus, the process varies depending on whether the parents are married or not, or if the mother is a single parent. In both cases you will be required to complete and swear affidavits at the court. Hereโs a simplified guide to help you understand what to do.
๐ผ If the Childโs Parents Are Not Married:
- Buy Court Stamps
- Visit any post office and buy court stamps (โฌ4) for each affidavit (signed statement).
- Sign Affidavits
- Both parents must sign affidavits confirming the father’s identity.
- You must sign an affidavit confirming if you have any other children and if you are married.
- You will need additional affidavits if:
- The baby is older than 3 months.
- One or both parent(s) do(es) not have a copy of their passport or ID.
- Go to the Family Court
- Bring the affidavits and stamps to the Family Court in your district.

- Submit Documents to the District Office
- Bring:
- Birth registration from hospital
- Signed affidavits
- Original + photocopies of your documents (Confirmation Letter, Alien Book, Passportor its official copy)
- 5 euros for the birth certificate
- In Nicosia, go to:
- ๐ Alkeou 2, Strovolos, 1458
- ๐ 8:00 AM โ 2:30 PM
- Get managerโs approval in Room 5.
- Go to Window 7 for the certificate (same-day service if documents are complete).
- Bring:

You must sign an affidavit confirming if you have any other children and if you are married.
