Pregnancy Timeline and Check-Ups
Pregnancy is usually divided into three trimesters. Each trimester has important medical appointments and tests. Knowing what to expect can help you feel more prepared.
First Trimester (Weeks 1–13)
- First gynecologist visit
- First ultrasound to confirm pregnancy
- Heartbeat check
Second Trimester (Weeks 14–27)
- Second anomaly ultrasound at the hospital’s ultrasound department
- Blood glucose test (to check for gestational diabetes)
Third Trimester (Weeks 28–40)
- Group B strep test
- Final check-ups
- Birth
Important to Remember
This is only a general timeline. Some women will need to see the doctor more often. You may have more appointments if:
- You are over 35 years old
- You are overweight or underweight
- You have health issues such as diabetes, high blood pressure, or HIV
- You are pregnant with twins, triplets, or more
- You have had pregnancy complications in the past
If any of these apply to you, your doctor will explain what extra check-ups are needed.
How to Prepare
- Keep all your test results and medical papers together in one folder.
- Bring your documents with you to every appointment.
- If you do not speak English or Greek, bring someone who can help with translation.
Extra Support at Caritas
At Caritas Cyprus, we know that pregnancy can feel confusing, especially if you are new to the health system here. Every two weeks, we hold a session called “Having a Baby in Cyprus” at our Migrant Center. In these sessions you can:
- Learn more about pregnancy care and rights in Cyprus
- Ask questions directly to staff and volunteers
- Meet other pregnant women and share experiences
Check our weekly schedule to see if a session is happening this week. We encourage you to join and feel supported throughout your pregnancy journey.
