How to Apply for a Birth Certificate in Cyprus if You’re Not Married or a Single Mother

Registering your newborn child is an important legal step. In Cyprus, the process varies depending on whether the parents are married or not, or if the mother is a single parent. Here’s a simplified guide to help you understand what to do.

🍼 If the Child’s Parents Are Not Married:
  1. Buy Court Stamps
    • Visit any post office and buy court stamps (€4) for each affidavit (signed statement).
  2. Sign Affidavits
    • Both parents must sign affidavits confirming the father’s identity.
    • You will need additional affidavits if:
      • The baby is older than 3 months.
      • One parent does not have a copy of their passport or ID.
  3. Go to the Family Court
    • Bring the affidavits and stamps to the Family Court in your district.
    • Example (Nicosia):
      • πŸ“ Diagorou 27, Kritikos Tower, 9th floor
      • πŸ•— 8:00 AM – 12:30 PM
  4. Submit Documents to the District Office
    • Bring:
      • Birth certificate from hospital
      • Signed affidavits
      • Original + photocopies of your documents (Confirmation Letter, Alien Book, Passport)
    • In Nicosia, go to:
      • πŸ“ Alkeou 2, Strovolos, 1458
      • πŸ•— 8:00 AM – 2:30 PM
    • Visit Window 7, then get manager’s approval in Room 5.
    • Return to Window 7 for the certificate (same-day service if documents are complete).
πŸ‘©β€πŸΌ If You Are a Single First-Time Mother:
  1. Check if You Need Affidavits
    • Required if:
      • You have other children.
      • The baby is older than 3 months.
      • You don’t have a copy of your passport.
  2. Go to the District Court
    • Bring affidavit(s) with €4 court stamp.
    • Example (Nicosia):
      • πŸ“ Charalambos Mouskos Street
      • πŸ•— 8:00 AM – 12:30 PM
  3. Then Follow the Same Steps as Above
    • Submit your documents to the District Office (see above).

πŸ’‘ Tip: The process may take some time, but in most cases, the birth certificate is issued on the same day.
