Beware of Scams: Phishing Emails and Fake SMS Messages

In August 2025, authorities in Cyprus warned about two new scams. Many people are receiving fake emails and text messages. These scams look real, but they are dangerous. They try to steal your money or personal information.

Fake EAC Emails

Some people received emails with the title “Unpaid Electricity Bill”. The email asks you to click on a link to pay.

⚠️ This is a scam. The Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) does not send these emails.

👉 If you get this message, do not click, do not pay. Check your bill only through the official EAC website or by calling them.

Fake SMS About Loyalty Points

Other people received SMS messages that look like they come from supermarkets. They say your loyalty points will expire soon and tell you to click on a link.

⚠️ This is also a scam. The link can steal your bank details or personal information.

👉 If you get this message, do not reply, do not click. Just delete it.

How to Stay Safe
  • Never give your bank or personal information through email or SMS.
  • Always check with the official organisation (EAC, supermarket, police).
  • Delete suspicious messages right away.
  • Keep your phone and computer safe with updates and antivirus.
  • If you are not sure or if you think you are a victim, ask for help.
