Sirens Will Sound in Cyprus on July 15 and 20: Don’t Be Alarmed
If you hear sirens in Cyprus on the mornings of Monday, July 15 and Saturday, July 20, do not be alarmed—they are part of an official memorial and commemoration.
The sirens will sound at 8:20 a.m. across the country to mark two significant historical events:
- July 15: In remembrance of the 1974 coup d’état in Cyprus.
- July 20: To commemorate the start of the Turkish military intervention five days later.
These sirens are part of national remembrance events. They will be brief and are not related to any current emergency. No action is needed on your part.
👉 Please be aware if you are new to Cyprus, have young children, or are sensitive to loud sounds. Informing your family or neighbors ahead of time may help avoid unnecessary worry.
