How to Register at a Public Hospital in Cyprus

If you’re living in Cyprus and need medical care, it’s important to know how to register at a hospital and what documents you must bring. This guide will help you understand the process—whether it’s for you or your child—and what to expect during your visit.

What You Need to Register for a Doctor’s Appointment

To register at a hospital and see a doctor, bring the following documents:

  • Confirmation Letter (from asylum services or immigration)
  • Alien Book (ARC)
  • Your exact home address (including street name and number, flat number, postal code, and city)
  • Valid telephone number
  • Results from previous medical exams (e.g. blood tests, ultrasounds)
  • Medical card, if you already have one
  • A completed medical history form (Appendix B)—you’ll be asked questions about your health and family history

➡️ Tip: Write down all your appointments and keep track of them carefully. You’ll need an appointment in almost all cases, except in emergencies.

🩺 Accessing Medical Care for Yourself

To access healthcare, you will need to show either your medical card or your confirmation letter, depending on how long you have been in Cyprus:

  • If you have been in Cyprus for more than 1 year → You need a medical card
  • If you have been in Cyprus for less than 1 year → You can use your confirmation letter

👉 Note: To apply for a medical card, you must submit an application to the Ministry of Health.

👶 Accessing Medical Care for Your Child

Healthcare access for your child also depends on how long you have been in Cyprus:

  • If you have been in Cyprus for more than 1 year → Apply for a medical card with your child’s name
  • If you have been in Cyprus for less than 1 year → You must show:
    • The baby’s confirmation letter, OR
    • Your confirmation letter AND the baby’s birth certificate

📌 To add your child to your medical card, you will need to complete an application with the Ministry of Health.
