Thinking About Returning to Syria? Important Notice
As noted by the Cyprus Refugee Council, all Syrian nationals currently living in Cyprus—including asylum seekers, subsidiary protection holders, and recognized refugees—should be aware of the serious consequences of withdrawing their protection status.
If you or your family are considering returning to Syria, you may be asked to formally close your asylum file or withdraw your international protection status.
⚠️ Important: Once this process is complete, it is not reversible.
If you change your mind and decide you want to remain in Cyprus, you will not be allowed to reapply for asylum or subsidiary protection.
We strongly encourage individuals to seek guidance before taking any steps. This is a significant legal decision that can affect your future rights and access to protection.
