Applying for a Refugee Travel Document (Refugee Passport) in Cyprus

If you have been granted refugee status, you are eligible to apply for a Refugee Passport as soon as you receive your Asylum Service Decision. The application process requires several steps and the submission of specific documents.

How to Apply

Before you can submit your application for a travel document, you must first obtain approval from Mr. Michalis Ioannou at the Migration Department in Nicosia. To get this approval, send a request to his email address:

miioannou@md.mip.gov.cy

Please note: This approval process may take some time as the process is slow.

Once you have received approval, you can proceed with submitting your application. Remember that each family member requires a separate application.

Required Documents

For each application, you will need to provide:

  • Completed Application Form (one per family member)
  • Asylum Service Decision and Alien Registration Certificate (ARC)
  • Sworn Affidavit confirming your personal details (For individuals born in Cyprus, a birth certificate is required)
  • Application Fee: €70 per application
Additional Information
  • For children under 18: The signatures of both parents are required. If one or both parents are unavailable, you must submit supporting documents, such as a court custody decision or a death certificate in lieu of the missing signature(s).
  • Processing Times: Applications that have already been submitted are currently being processed, but please expect delays.

By following these steps and ensuring that you submit all the necessary documentation, you can successfully apply for your Refugee Passport. Stay informed about any updates in the procedure and be prepared for a slow processing time.

Hello, for beneficiaries of subsidiary protection, you are not eligible for a Travel Document. You must contact the nearest embassy of your home country to your place of residence and request them to issue you a passport from your country of origin.

    • Unfortunately, there is a long backlog of applications and delays are normal. If you submitted your application correctly, you will have to be patient. There is nothing we can do to speed up the process. We do not issue travel documents.
