October 28 Holiday
Caritas Cyprus will be closed on Monday, October 28, in observance of the public holiday. Government offices, banks and some shops will also be closed.
October 28 is “Ohi Day” (Anniversary of the No), celebrated in Cyprus, in Greece and by Greeks around the world. It commemorates the rejection by Greek Prime Minister Ioannis Metaxas of the ultimatum made by Italian dictator Benito Mussolini on 28 October 1940 to occupy Greece. Saying “No” brought Greece into World War II on the side of the Allies.
