McCarrick, Archbishop Emeritus of Washington D.C and CSIS Counselor (Caritas Sistemo Informativo Sociale), along with a delegation – Sean L. Callahan (Chief Operating Officer of Catholic Relief Services and member of the EXBO of Caritas Internationalis ) and Kevin Hartigan (Regional Director of the Catholic Relief Services for Europe, the Middle East, and Central Asia ) – to Cyprus from 15 -17  September 2013 after an invitation by His Excellency the Maronite Archbishop of Cyprus – President of Caritas Cyprus Youssef Soueif and the Board of Caritas Cyprus, was accomplished with great success.

The delegation met with  H.E. The President of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr. Nikos Anastasiades, His Beatitude Archbishop Chrysostomos II, Mayors and MPs as well as Community Representatives in Parliament as well as with other personalities from Church and all communities of Cyprus.  They visited the main Caritas parishes in Nicosia, Limassol, Pafos  and the Maronite villages celebrating the Holy Mass and offering prayers. They had the opportunity to discuss with State personalities and community people  about issues of high importance such us the political issue of Cyprus, the current situation in Syria and Middle East, the problems the Maronite villages are facing and the impact of the financial crisis to Cyprus people.

During the three days visit ways of collaboration of CRS with Caritas Cyprus were investigated.  Ways of  strengthening solidarity by their   long experience in humanitarian aid in so many countries all over the world and in

fostering cooperation for the good of the society with projects for youth unemployment,  for migrants,  handicapped people and persons in need.

Ways of strengthening the mission of Caritas in promoting the values of  faith, love and peace in the country that has a role in the whole region as the door to Europe and the Middle East.
